The Government of Zimbabwe, through the Office of the President and Cabinet, is hosting a high-level workshop in Kadoma to consolidate priorities for National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2). The strategy, which will take effect in 2026, is the final phase in Zimbabwe’s roadmap toward Vision 2030, aiming to transform the country into an upper-middle-income economy.
NDS2 will build on the achievements of National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1) while introducing new measures to drive innovation, industrialization, and climate change adaptation. Government officials, policymakers, and stakeholders, including the Health Service Commission, are attending the workshop to align sectoral priorities with the national vision. The Health Service Commission is represented by the Deputy Chairperson Dr Rugare Abigail Kangwende and the Secretary for the Health Service Commission Dr Christopher Pasi.
The consolidation of NDS2 is a critical step in shaping the country’s economic and social trajectory. The strategy will focus on innovation, industrialization, adaptation to climate change and strengthening key sectors such as health, education, and infrastructure.
The workshop comes at a time when Zimbabwe is intensifying efforts to boost economic growth, enhance social services, and create employment opportunities, particularly for vulnerable groups. The health sector is expected to play a crucial role in ensuring that healthcare remains a pillar of national development, with priorities set to include expanding health infrastructure, improving service delivery and addressing climate-related health challenges.
As the workshop concludes, stakeholders will submit their recommendations to the government, setting the stage for the official rollout of NDS2 in 2026. The strategy is expected to accelerate Zimbabwe’s economic transformation, reinforcing the country’s commitment to achieving Vision 2030.
