The Health Service Commission has embarked on an important training program to refine job description writing for healthcare professionals in preparation for a job evaluation exercise. The initiative, to carry out a job evaluation which began at the end of July and is expected to be completed by mid-November, aims to ensure that every role within public health institutions is clearly defined and effectively communicated.
Speaking at the three-day workshop organised by the Health Service Commission Acting Secretary Ms. Nonah Zhou highlighted the Commission’s commitment to improving healthcare through clear role definitions. “As health workers, we should understand that our roles are not just about the tasks we perform but also about the impact we have on the lives of individuals, communities, and the nation that we serve,” she said.
General Manager Conditions of Service and Industrial Relations Mr Micheal Sande assured health workers that no one would lose their job through the job evaluation exercise. The training, led by MBB Consultant, is focused on imparting the skills and knowledge necessary for writing job descriptions that are clear, concise, and reflective of the dynamic nature of healthcare roles. Participants are expected to explore and articulate the skills, qualifications, and expectations for each job in the health sector.
Key areas of the training include understanding the importance of job descriptions, the key components of an effective job description, tailoring descriptions to the needs of the health sector, and best practices for writing and reviewing them. Job evaluation in the health sector will help build grading structures, establish job hierarchies, determine pay relationships, and develop policies and systems that speak to job responsibilities.
