Health sector stakeholders have gathered in Kadoma to review Zimbabwe’s
National Health Strategy Report, a key policy document guiding the country’s
health priorities and interventions.
The three-day workshop, running from 11 to 13 March 2026, has brought together
government officials, health professionals, development partners, and civil society
representatives to assess progress made under the current strategy and help shape
the next National Health Strategy (2026–2030). Participants are evaluating the
impact of policies and programmes implemented under National Health Strategy I,
while identifying gaps and emerging challenges affecting the country’s healthcare
system. Discussions during the meeting are focusing on strengthening health
systems, improving access to essential services, and addressing public health
challenges affecting communities across Zimbabwe.
Speaking during the opening session, the Ministry of Health and Child Care’s Director
of Monitoring and Evaluation, Dr. Gladman Tendai Mubonani, emphasized the
importance of inclusive stakeholder engagement in reviewing the strategy. “The
input from stakeholders is critical in ensuring that the strategy remains relevant,
responsive, and capable of addressing the health needs of the people of Zimbabwe,”
he said. Dr. Mubonani said the outcomes of the workshop would play an important
role in refining the strategy and improving its effectiveness as the country develops
the National Health Strategy 2026–2030.
The workshop has also provided a platform for participants to share experiences,
lessons learned, and best practices from various programmes implemented across
the health sector. Through group discussions and presentations, stakeholders are
identifying implementation gaps and proposing practical solutions to strengthen
health service delivery. The National Health Strategy serves as a blueprint for
guiding health development in Zimbabwe, outlining priorities aimed at improving the
delivery of accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare services.
During the workshop, Health Service Commission General Manager for Human
Resources, Ms. Nornah Zhou, highlighted the importance of integrating health
priorities into broader national development efforts. “This review process is essential
in helping us evaluate the progress made regarding human capital issues in the
health sector. The insights shared here will guide future health planning and ensure
that the strategy remains responsive to the needs of the people of Zimbabwe,” she
said.
Development partners attending the workshop also reaffirmed their commitment to
supporting national health priorities and strengthening the country’s health systems.
“Strong partnerships are key to building resilient health systems. Through collective
engagement and open dialogue, we can ensure that the National Health Strategy
continues to deliver meaningful improvements in the health and well-being of the
people of Zimbabwe,” said a Partner representative.
Organisers expressed confidence that the outcomes of the workshop will help refine
the strategy and strengthen Zimbabwe’s healthcare system. Stakeholders also
reaffirmed their commitment to working collaboratively to advance national health
goals and improve the well-being of communities across the country.
