HSC Engages Chitungwiza Central Hospital on Key Stakeholder Issues

Health Service Commission (HSC) visited Chitungwiza Central Hospital to interact with health workers, and witness the operations and challenges faced by the institution.

The HSC’s engagement visit at Chitungwiza Central Hospital highlights its commitment to addressing critical issues in the health sector. The delegation comprised of HSC Deputy Chairperson Dr. Rugare Abigail Kangwende, Commissioners Major General (Rtd) Dr Gerald Gwinji, Angelbert Mbengwa, Dr Edward Makondo, Josephine Mwakutuya, HSC Secretary Dr Christopher Pasi and Chief Director Curative Services in the Ministry of Health and Child Care Dr Maxwell Hove and general managers from HSC.

During the visit, discussions focused on pressing matters such as staff welfare, accommodation challenges and the state of hospital equipment. Dr. Kangwende underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in improving healthcare service delivery. “Healthcare workers are the backbone of the health system. It is our priority to ensure their welfare and provide the necessary resources to enable them to perform optimally,” said Dr. Kangwende.

HSC Secretary Dr. Christopher Pasi echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the Commission’s role in facilitating dialogue and finding sustainable solutions to systemic challenges. “Engagements like these are essential for bridging gaps between healthcare providers and policymakers. We are here to listen, support, and act,” he said.

Chitungwiza Central Hospital Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Makota expressed appreciation for the visit, noting that such initiatives bring much-needed attention to the hospital’s challenges. “This engagement is timely and vital. The issues of accommodation for our staff and outdated equipment have been longstanding, and we hope for meaningful resolutions,” said Dr. Makota.
The visit began with a tour of the hospital, where the delegation observed first-hand the conditions and operations at the facility. This stakeholder engagement is part of the HSC’s broader efforts to enhance healthcare services and strengthen the health system across Zimbabwe.
