A total of 250 Registered Nurses and Midwives graduated at Kwekwe General Hospital at the 13th Midwives and RGN Graduation and Prize Giving ceremony which was graced by the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Midlands Province Honorable Owen Ncube.
General Manager Conditions of Service and Industrial Relations Mr Michael Sande and Mr Elias Chizema who is the General Manager for Administration and Finance represented the Health Service Commission.
Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Health and Child Care Honorable Ncube said: “This is a remarkable achievement and I commend all of you for your hard work and unwavering commitment to this noble profession of nursing. Let me assure you that efforts to improve the facilities and conditions of service is being made by the second republic across the country including infrastructure, equipment and human capital development. Recruitment and training of health professional has been a major focus in bridging the gap between the demand supply of qualified personnel in the health sector.”
The Director of Nursing Services in the Ministry of Health and Child Care Mrs Nyaradzai Chiwara said the training aims to collate theory into practical using appropriate models and resource.
“At the end of the training the cadre should be able to have acquired the knowledge, skills and attitudes to be able to provide quality health care services to the nation,” she said.
Meanwhile the Provincial Medical Director for Midlands Province Dr Mary Muchekeza applauded the students for their hard work and dedication shown throughout the training. She said, “I am extremely proud to be part of the team that is involved in the excellent training of these graduates so that the product we are sending out is properly capacitated to deliver quality health care services to the people.
Some of the most outstanding students who graduated include, Francisca Zengeya, Tandie Rennie, Patience Chakadya who won gold medals at state final examination.
Kwekwe Hospital School of nursing offers two programs which are the registered general nurse training and the midwifery training.
