154 dedicated healthcare professionals, including 94 General Nurses, 9 Operating Theatre Nurses, 12 Intensive Care Nurses, and 39 Midwives graduated recently from Sally Mugabe Central Hospital. The newly qualified health workers bring fresh skills, expertise, and enthusiasm to Zimbabwe’s healthcare sector, promising to make a meaningful impact across health institutions nationwide.
The event was graced by Guest of Honour Mrs. Kezinet Ndlovu, Regional Manager of ZB Bank, who delivered an inspiring address to the graduates. In her remarks, Mrs. Ndlovu expressed her optimism that the knowledge and training acquired by these new nurses will translate into excellent, compassionate care for the people of Zimbabwe.
“It is my fervent hope that the knowledge you have acquired throughout your training will be translated into excellent care rendered to our population who seek your services,” Mrs. Ndlovu said. She also urged the graduates to uphold the values and ethics of their profession, reminding them of the importance of preserving their achievements through exemplary behavior and dedication to their roles
Mrs. Ndlovu highlighted Zimbabwe’s well-regarded health delivery system, praising its resilience and reputation as a hub of professional excellence. “Zimbabwe has a strong health delivery system and has defied all odds, emerging as a center of professional excellence,” she noted, commending the country’s healthcare training programs for maintaining high standards and producing outstanding practitioners.
Speaking on the sidelines of the graduation ceremony Health Service Commission Commissioner Dr Edward Makondo expressed the Commission’s dedication to enhancing working conditions for health workers. He emphasized the importance of retaining skilled professionals in the sector. Dr. Makondo highlighted that improving work environments and addressing the needs of healthcare personnel are critical steps in ensuring that the health sector can deliver high-quality services to the public effectively.
“The Health Service Commission is committed to improving conditions of service for health workers. You will agree with me that once our health workers are motivated they will be able to deliver quality health service to the nation,” said Dr Makondo.
The success of the Sally Mugabe School of Midwifery was particularly notable, achieving a remarkable 100% pass rate and awarding gold and silver medals to top-performing students. The Sally Mugabe School of Nursing followed closely with a commendable 94% pass rate, further underscoring the high level of competence and dedication of Zimbabwe’s health training institutions.
This influx of highly trained nurses into Zimbabwe’s healthcare system is expected to provide vital support to health facilities across the country, from urban hospitals to rural clinics. These graduates stand ready to address the needs of diverse communities, contributing to a healthier and more resilient Zimbabwe.
